There's something magical about how childhood memories make national celebrations feel so warm and personal. Flags, sweets, parades — that enthusiasm makes you smile and remember the simple joys of growing up. School celebrations make everything feel cheerful: the performances, the applause, and the sweets that somehow always taste better on special days. My years at Udaya Public School in Ayodhya are full of exactly those moments.
Why We Celebrate 26th January
The Constitution of India came into effect on 26th January 1950. From that day, India became a Republic — not just a free country. That is why we celebrate Republic Day every year with such respect and gratitude; its history teaches us about equality and the rule of law.
As little kids, perhaps we didn't comprehend all this history profoundly. But we felt the pride.
Rehearsals, Sweets, and Tired Legs
Preparations used to commence a month in advance, full of excitement and dedication. Dance rehearsal in the last period was something else — tired legs, missed steps, and nonstop laughter. Those moments were simple but so precious.
Life is busier now, and celebrations feel different. But every 26th January, those sweet memories come rushing back. Sitting in the school grounds watching the performances was pure delight: patriotic songs, dance, speeches, poems, sports events, and plenty of thrills. This day is not just about history or a national holiday — it's about pride, childhood, companionship, and memories that stay in our hearts forever.
The Republic Day That Changed Mine
Republic Day 2018 was particularly special for me. That day, the school presented me with a leather cricket kit after my selection in the 63rd National Cricket Tournament, organized by the School Games Federation of India. I am forever thankful to my school — and to our respected Managing Director, Ms. Apurva ma'am — for backing me and making me believe in myself.
That is what sports at Udaya gave me: not just coaching, but conviction.
