When Students Speak for Wildlife
What happens when students step out of the classroom and raise their voices for wildlife?
At Udaya Public School, Ayodhya, the students of the Go Green Club turned awareness into action by organising a “Save Big Cats, Save Environment” awareness rally in connection with the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit 2026.
Carrying colourful placards and raising the message “Save Big Cats, Save Environment,” students, teachers and staff came together to highlight an important message: protecting wildlife also means protecting the ecosystems we all depend on.
Why Do Big Cats Matter?
Big cats are an important part of healthy ecosystems. As apex predators, they help maintain ecological balance and play a vital role in the habitats they share with countless other species. The International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), launched by India in 2023, focuses on strengthening international cooperation for the conservation of seven big cats: Tiger · Lion · Leopard · Snow Leopard · Cheetah · Jaguar · Puma.
Its work brings countries and conservation partners together to share knowledge, strengthen conservation efforts and protect big cats and their habitats.
From Awareness to Action
The Go Green Club rally gave students an opportunity to communicate this message themselves. Members of the Student Council, young students, teachers and staff participated enthusiastically as the rally moved through the school campus. The presence of the Principal and Vice Principal further encouraged students and reinforced the idea that caring for nature is a shared responsibility.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The initiative was more than an awareness activity. It helped students understand how wildlife, habitats, biodiversity and human life are interconnected.
Through participation, students experienced how a simple message can create awareness and how collective action can contribute to a larger cause. Along the way, they also developed important values such as teamwork, communication, leadership, responsibility and empathy.
A Message for the Future
The rally may have taken place within the school campus, but its message goes much further. Protecting big cats means protecting the ecosystems in which they live—and protecting those ecosystems means protecting our shared future.
At Udaya Public School, the Go Green Club's initiative reminds us that environmental conservation is not simply something to read about. It is something we can understand, speak about and act upon.
