When Republic Day Was Pure Childhood Emotion

By Elisha Vishwakarma, Alumna (Batch of 2020)

There’s something magical about how childhood memories make national celebrations feel so warm and personal. Flags, sweets, parades, and that enthusiasm makes you smile and remember the simple joys of growing up. It’s a beautiful reminder that pride and celebration live in the little moments too. School celebrations make everything feel cheerful, the performances, applause, and certainly the sweets somehow always taste better on special days.

The constitution of India came into effect on 26th January, 1950. From that day, India became a Republic, not just a free country. This is why we celebrate this day every year with great respect and gratitude. The importance and history of Republic day teach us about equality and law.

As little kids, perhaps we didn’t comprehend all this history profoundly, but we felt the pride. Preparations used to commence a month before with excitement and dedication. Dance rehearsal in the last period was something else. Tired legs, missed steps and nonstop laughter. Those moments were simple but so precious.

Nowadays, life is busier and celebrations seem different. But every 26th January, those sweet memories come rushing back. This day is not just regarding history or a national holiday, it’s about pride, childhood, companionship, and memories that stay eternally in our hearts forever. Sitting in the school and watching performances was a pure delight, patriotic songs, dance, speeches, poems, sports activities and plenty of thrills.

Republic day of 2018 was particularly very special for me. On that day, I was supported by school with a leather cricket kit as I got my selections in 63rd National Cricket Tournament organized by School Games Federation of India. I am evermore thankful to my school and the respected Managing Director, Ms. Apurva ma’am for supporting me and making myself believe in me.
